Davy Eduard King was born on November 9th, 1985 in the city of Leiden, The Netherlands. Born to a Dutch mother and Surinamese father, Davy spent the majority of his life in Dutch schools before having the opportunity to attend The American School of The Hague in Wassenaar, The Netherlands. It was here, at age 17, that Davy discovered a new passion in life, the world of acting.
Davy went on to college at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Here, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater while playing Division 3 college basketball. He performed in a number of productions, including Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. It wasn’t long before he started getting his feet wet in the world of television acting; having done multiple commercials while being in the United States of America, as well as a variety of modeling gigs.
In 2009, he returned to The Netherlands to continue chasing his dreams of being an actor. His background in sports and his passion to help people, initially pushed him to the field of education. First, as an elementary school P.E. teacher, later focusing on coaching basketball. In the meantime, he continued to develop his acting skills via multiple acting workshops and training courses. He also developed himself by successfully following a course in fitness training.
His work ethic did not come without result. He got his break as an actor in 2015 as “Coach Glenn” in the hit show Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden (Good Times Bad Times). An even bigger break came with the social media hit: Buik, Billen, Bonus, by Albert Heijn. In the controversial commercial by Appie Today (the social channel by Albert Heijn) the “fit guy,” played by actor King, showed how you can get fit with supermarket products that are on sale.
After those commercials, he was cast in a variety of parts. His cinema acting debut in Zwaar Verliefd (Heavily in Love), many appearances in the comedy-hit show Komt een Man bij de Dokter (a Man goes to the Doctor), and a lead in the soap opera De Spa (The Spa). In 2018, he even made his professional theater acting debut and toured the country with the comedy Judeska in de TBS-Kliniek (Judeska in Rehab). As of this last April he finished working on his USA feature debut in the new Hallmark movie “To Catch a Spy.”
Even though sports and athletics are and always will remain a big part of Davy’s life, acting is his biggest passion. Partially formed in the United States of America, he carries the motto of the “American Dream” – a life in which everything is possible. It is the mentality he lives by and would love to share with the world.
